One of the things I use a lot in my wedding pictures is the technique of layering. Sometimes that means I pick a subject in the foreground which I use to create a 3D like effect. Even with a relatively slow lens like the 35 summicron, there is still enough room to render objects in a blur, as long as you get close enough to them. It’s easier with a somewhat longer lens though.
